Arteta reveals no chance of extending Lacazette contract

Alexandre Lacazette only has a contract left at Arsenal until next summer, but Mikel Arteta insists the 30-year-old forward has yet to close in on a new deal year.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has revealed he is not ruling out the prospect of extending Alexandre Lacazette’s contract in place of the current one that expires in the summer. Next year, according to a report from the ‘Evening Standard’ on Thursday. 

Lacazette, who came in for a 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace on Monday, has held talks with foreign clubs over a pre-contract from January and pending a free transfer in the summer. But Arteta has revealed the latest situation that Arsenal have not ruled out a new deal with the 30-year-old either.

When asked if Lacazette would not extend his contract with the club, Arteta replied: ‘No, I wouldn’t say that. Anything can happen.’

‘It depends on many things. It’s not just a matter of willingness. But it’s about achieving that desire and when. Which is also very important.’

Arsenal were reportedly keen to let Lacazette leave the club last summer in exchange for a hefty fee. But no clubs have shown much interest in the 30-year-old since the French forward has always been on the bench, but Arteta has lauded the former Lyon striker’s unrelenting attitude and determination. from the beginning 

‘I have no doubts about that,’ said the Spaniard. ‘If so I might suggest doing something different with him in the summer. When a player is unable to find motivation or if his interest is only his financial future.’

‘It’s not the case with Laga, and he has shown that since I’ve been here every day. That’s why he’s a really important player for us.’
